After a bereavement

Probate, handled at your pace.

When someone dies, their estate has to be valued, reported to HMRC, taken through the probate registry, and distributed to whoever inherits. We can do all of it, or the parts that are hardest, depending on what you need.

Grant-only Probate

We prepare the Grant of Probate application and any inheritance tax return. You handle the rest.

Appropriate when the estate is reasonably simple and you have the time and temperament to deal with banks, the land registry, and beneficiaries directly. We give you a handover pack with what to do, in what order, and what to watch out for. Lower fee, more of your time.

Suits you if

  • The estate is straightforward
  • You have the time and headspace to do it yourself
  • You want professional help with the HMRC and court paperwork

Full Estate Administration

End-to-end handling, from first meeting to final distribution.

We value the estate, apply for the Grant, settle debts and taxes, liquidate or transfer assets, and distribute to the beneficiaries. You review and sign; we do the chasing. Usually runs 6 to 12 months depending on the estate; longer if property needs selling or HMRC has questions.

Suits you if

  • The estate includes property, multiple accounts, or a business interest
  • Beneficiaries are in different places or relationships are strained
  • You're executor but don't want this to be your second job for a year

Inheritance Tax Support

Help with IHT400 or IHT205 returns, the standard allowances, and questions about timing.

Most estates either owe no inheritance tax or owe it under two or three specific allowances: the main nil-rate band, the residence nil-rate band, and often a transferable slice from a deceased spouse. We work through the figures, file the return, and flag anything where a specialist tax adviser would save more than they cost. For most families it is one-off paperwork, not an ongoing scheme.
